[i]nyghtowl: A TESFestivus For the Restovus

So it's three days after camp and I think I'm pretty recuperarated. Of course I just slept 13 hours and another two this afternoon (missing most of "Ocean's 13" on HBO) so I think I'm ready and rested for TESFest.

My body does this when it finally needs enough sleep it finds a way to knock me out and get it.

Looking forward to the weekend, seeing all of our friends and hopefully getting to play some. If anyone else is going to TF via NJ Transit we are probably aiming for the 11:14am train from New York's Penn Station.

Safe travels to everyone coming to TESFest and hope we have a great weekend

Where do you call home?

Brooklyn NY specifically my neighborhood of Sunset Park. I live on a high hill a quarter mile above the 4th Avenue train station, in a co-op building built in 1913. This is the same building I grew up in when I was a little kid--I live here until 1985 and then we moved to Bay Ridge. I moved back here in 2000. Emily moved in in 2005. We share a 5 room apartment on the ground floor with 9 and a half foot ceilings, columns in athe living room, and an excess of well-meant clutter.

[i]ashkes_muse: Three Things Meme

Stolen from damn near everywhere:

Post 3 things you've done in your lifetime that you don't think anybody else on your friends list has done.

See if anybody else responds with "I've done that."

Have your friends cut & paste this into their journal to see what unique things they've done in their life.

1) Found over 700 geocaches.

2) Played a pick-up game of basketball on the parquet floor of the old Boston Garden.

3) Worked for a summer in a plywood manufacturing factory.

Just got home from the movie theater where we saw Wall-E. Pixar has hit another home run with this one. If you haven't already seen it, bump Wall-E to the top of your must-see list.

[i]sylvari: Animal Card

My card today

Butterfly (NA) Butterfly today is telling you there is transformation coming. Take a look at where you are in the cycle to determine where you need to go. As a creature of air Butterfly is here to help you by bringing mental clarity to your journey.
ask yourself -

Is this the egg stage? - a thought or idea?
Is it the larva stage? - Do I need to make a decision?
Is it the cocoon stage? - What are you doing to make your decision a reality?
Is it the birth stage? - Is it a compete idea?

When you know where you are you can decide where to go.

This coupled with last week's Hare makes me think I need to get off my ass about something. Now I just need to figure out what....so many choices.

[i]ashkes_muse: NYC Trip Report

In the past two months, [info]pinksbrat and I have visited NYC twice. The first trip is well documented here in her journal. I was incredibly lazy (from a journaling perspective) and failed to make my own post. That will be rectified here.

In my typical style for a post about a trip, we'll do this bullet-style: Cut because I love... )

[i]sylvari: Animal Card

My card for this week

Hare (C) - Hare brings with it balance, intuition and the promise of fulfillment. Hare is a creature of the Goddess, who stands between the night and the day. Shapeshifting is strong in Hare. She is here to help guide you thru this time of transition and change, from one creative endeavor to the next.

bonus jumped out at me card -

Blackbird (C) (r) - Blackbird is the smith's bird. If it comes into your life reversed it is telling you its time to create a life of purpose and passion. All four elements are used in metal working and Blackbird is calling you to integrate all four - mind, heart, instinct and intuition into your life. Just standing between both worlds without doing anything is not enough.

interesting...

[i]nyghtowl: The Saga of the Blue Boots: Pride Weekend Parts I and II

Part I: LPN-Leather Pride Night

The usual hustle and frenzy of getting ready for LPN this year was increased by two factors--the fact that I had to be there at 4:30 and the fact that I had a major BOOT ISSUE. Yes, dear reader, I managed to get into my high-laced Chippewa logger boots. the ones with the army green laces. Took 20 minutes. Then I stood up and AHHH felt searing pain in both of my Achilles tendons. Fuck that hurt. So I took them off (with Em's help) and settled for a pair of dark blue Digger workboots (from Canada) that I bought back in '02 or '03--I forget which. Relics from times past but still comfortable and awesome looking

This year LPN was again at the cramped quarters of Splash, a club several cuts below our old haunts of the (demolished) Roxy and the (expensive) Puck Building. The event ran smoother this year, fuelled by a couple of "health shakes" from the bar (actually margaritas but I love a good running joke!) Saw a lot of good friends past and present and maybe some future ones too. Highlights included getting my boots blacked (by the excellent [info]bbjim), hanging with good buds [info]epinephric, [info]drukwerk and [info]iamtrogdor and fluffing a couple of auctions. Hey, it's for charity. And I'm a sadist :)

The only major thing I won was a registration for GLLA (Great Lakes Leather Alliance) which is a con in August I was thinking of going to anyway. It's in exotic, erotic Indianapolis (where I know some scene folk.) When I saw the GLLA presenter list today, I got psyched for this weekend. (scheduled one week after Floating World. After LPN, we went to the diner with friends and got a ride home from one of them. Then fall down thud tho I slept in the chair last night.

Part II: Folsom Street East

After resting and watching Star Trek this morning, I got my t, (Number 9 boot to the ass!) jeans and vest on plus the same blue Digger boots I wore to LPN--I wanted to wear my black rubber-toed ones because I had a bootblacking date but they are too worn down on the right heel to be comfortable. I mean those suckers are FRIED.

So I jumped on the train, cranked up the Pod and headed over to Folsom. Did my volunteer shift for GMSMA handing out flyers at the door. Then, [info]boymeat asked me to do relief work at the TES table and I sat for an hour, smoked a cigar, handed out Prometheus magazine and watched the show which was much better (and not ear-splittingly loud) than it has been in the past.

The highlight of the afternoon was when Em showed up looking great in a white polka-dot dress and cute white hat. We continued to work the TES table while watching Bob Mould play an awesome solo set. Yes thats right kiddies, Bob Mould from Hüsker Dü! Talk about having front row seats. He played a long set, on solo electric guitar. I was impressed with the strength of his performance, his solid rhythm playing and his onstage energy. HD are a band I've never really gotten into but they are going to get a thorough hearing from me soon. Wow.

Then we hooked up with [info]lordlnyc and went to pay our respects to florent my favorite NY restaurant which is closing in a week. Excellent meal as always with additional emotional twist that florent is soon to close (next Sat.) Hoping to get one more meal there (on Tuesday night!) before I go to LR....
